Galway senator Ronan Mullen from Ahascragh looks likely to retain his seat in the Senate.

The first count in the NUI Seanad elections is expected to be announced this evening at the count centre in Dublin's RDS.

Galway Green Senator Niall O' Brolchain looks likely to lose his seat.

NUI Galway lecturer Donncha O'Connell is polling steadily, and while he will finish well placed he is not in contention for one of the three seats.

The fourth Galway nominee for the NUI panel, city teacher Matthias Walter Cowley is polling much further down the field.
