Galway shop one number off selling jackpot Irish lotto ticket congratulates winner

It is a life changing amount of money with the winner expected more than likely to be a regular local than someone who was just passing through
A rural Galway shop has confirmed they were just one number off selling the winning jackpot ticket for a recent lotto draw.
One punter went into McCormack’s in Mountbellew on Friday evening to purchase a Quick Pick ticket but little did they know that their life was about to change forever.
On Halloween night, they matched five numbers and the bonus ball instantly winning them €73,687.
If they had had one more number from the draw, however, they would have been Ireland’s newest millionaire winning €4,352,191.
The shop said: “We would like to say a huge congratulations to one of our very luck customers on winning €73,687 on the national lotto at the weekend.”
National Lottery spokesperson Darragh O’Dwyer said, “Halloween brought a €73,687 surprise for one Galway player who matched five numbers and the bonus in Saturday night’s Lotto draw.”
“We’re encouraging anyone who purchased a Quick Pick ticket at Spar on the Tuam Road in Mountbellew to check their ticket carefully today, as one winning ticket is now worth an incredible €73,687.”
“And that’s not all, on Saturday night, we saw over 92,000 players nationwide win prizes across the Lotto and Plus draws!”
Last month, the National Lottery confirmed it would be retiring Lotto balls 46 and 47 meaning “less numbers and more millionaires”.
When winners’ check their retail-purchased tickets, either on the app or in-store, they will be advised to contact the National Lottery to learn more about the status of their ticket. They should then call the Prize Claims team on 1800 666 222 and their exact prize amount will be confirmed.
For online Lotto Plus winners who win an additional prize, the Prize Claims team will contact them directly.
Lotto players hoping to be celebrating this weekend are reminded that tickets are now on sale and can be purchased nationwide in-store, through the National Lottery app or at www.lottery.ie.
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total, over €7 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 39 years ago. In 2024 alone, €239.3 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
