Named young Galway man drove into woman injuring her before ramming garda van

The case was one of dozens listed for sentencing at Galway Circuit Court that could not proceed due to the ongoing legal aid fee dispute
A 24-year-old man who reversed a car into a woman at the Galway Shopping Centre on the same day he rammed a car into a Garda patrol vehicle is due to be sentenced next month.
Tom McDonagh, with addresses at Clai Mór, Ballybrit and Glenbaun, Ballybane, has pleaded guilty to two charges of endangerment contrary to Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
One charge alleges that on July 19, 2025 at Galway Shopping Centre, intentionally or recklessly, while driving a vehicle, McDonagh reversed a car and hit a woman as she was crossing the road, causing her to be thrown suddenly to the ground and injury to her head and body, creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another.
A second charge states that at Castlepark, Ballybane, on the same date, Tom McDonagh intentionally or recklessly reversed a blue Toyota Avensis into Garda patrol van while two Gardaí were present, creating a substantial risk of death or serious harm to another.
Jennifer Higgins BL told Galway Circuit Court she and solicitor Michael Cunningham had recently come on record and Mr Cunningham only recently received a medical report previously sought by the defence.
Judge Brian O'Callaghan that directed any defence reports should be shared with the court and prosecution prior to the sentence hearing.
Judge O'Callaghan remanded the accused on the same bail terms previously agreed to appear for sentencing on November 18.
As part of his bail conditions, Tom McDonagh has undertaken not to drive any vehicle, to surrender his driving license and to reside at a specified address.
The case was one of dozens listed for sentencing at Galway Circuit Court last week that could not proceed due to the ongoing legal aid fee dispute.
