THE GALWAY senior football team has been named for Sunday’s crucial National Football League clash with Monaghan.

Padraic Joyce has made one change from his side that drew with Donegal in round five. Conor Flaherty replaces Conor Gleeson as the Galway goalkeeper on Sunday afternoon. Gleeson has started three games in goal, while Eamonn McGrath has featured in the other two games.

This Sunday, Conor Flaherty is set to make his first start in the 2026 National League. Galway face Monaghan on Sunday afternoon at 3:45pm in the Inniskeen GAA Club, county Monaghan.

It is an unchanged full back line with Johnny McGrath partnering Cian Hernon and Jack Glynn. Liam Silke is joined by Dylan McHugh and Sean Kelly in the half back line. John Maher and Matthew Tierney continue their midfield partnership, while the half-forward line is made up of Shane McGrath, Ciaran Mulhern and Cein D’Arcy. Galway sharpshooter Robert Finnerty is named in the full forward line alongisde Oisín Mac Donnacha and Liam Ó Conghaile.

Barry Tiernan has been appointed as the referee for Sunday’s game. Galway will aim to take a crucial step towards securing their Division One status this weekend.

Currently, Galway, Armagh, Dublin, and Monaghan are all aiming to avoid the drop to Division Two football. However, the Tribesmen know that a victory for them, combined with a Dublin win over Armagh, would guarantee their survival in Division One with a round to go. Their opponents Monaghan look likely to make the drop to Division two having lost all five of their five games and they sit on a score difference of -55.

For supporters who can’t make the game, the round six National Football League clash will be shown live on TG4.
