Teenager named over alleged dangerous driving incident in Galway city as two women injured

He is charged with being the driver of a vehicle involved in the occurrence of an injury to two females
A teenager has been charged in connection with an alleged incident of dangerous driving in Galway City centre last week when two people were injured.
Christiano Macula (18), with an address at 25 Fána Glás, Ballybane, appeared at Galway District Court on five charges arising from an incident at Williamsgate Street on October 29.
Sergeant Claire Heneghan handed into court schedules of the accused's arrest, charge and caution and the court heard he made no reply to any of the charges after caution.
Sgt Heneghan confirmed to Judge Catherine Ryan that Macula is charged with one offence of dangerous driving contrary to section 53 of the Road Traffic Act and also faces four charges contrary to section 106 of the Road Traffic Act.
The court was told there was no objection to Macula being released on bail subject to him abiding by conditions.
He must reside at his given address, sign on three times a week at a Garda station and observe a curfew between 10pm and 7am.
Garry McDonald BL said the conditions are acceptable and asked the court to note that solicitor Evan Moore will be coming on record.
Mr McDonald said an application for legal aid was not being made at the moment.
Judge Ryan remanded the accused on bail to appear again on January 13, 2027 when directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions are expected to be known.
In the case, Christiano Macula is charged with dangerous driving at Williamsgate Street on October 29.
The four charges contrary to section 106 of the Road Traffic Act allege Macula, being the driver of a vehicle involved in the occurrence of an injury to two females, did fault to keep the vehicle at or near the place of the occurrence for a period which was reasonable; did fail to stop the vehicle; having not given the appropriate information to a member of An Garda Síochana, did fail to report the occurrence as soon as possible; did fail to give appropriate information on demand to Garda Paul Varley.
