WARNING ISSUED TO CITY CYCLISTS

Date Published: 28-Nov-2011
A safety warning has been issued to cyclists who use the Seamus Quirke road in the west of the city.
It follows the switching over of traffic from the existing roadway to a newly constructed section.
Galway Cycling Campaign is concerned that footpath structures on one side of the new section are being used incorrectly by cyclists, against the normal flow of traffic.
It's warning that using the paths in this manner significantly increases the risk of a collision with cars at the side roads.
The group has previously expressed serious concern about the design of the Seamus Quirke road.
