No compensation for Galway fishing boats lost in storms
Galway Bay fm newsroom - No compensation will be provided to fishermen who have had their boats lost or damaged at sea due to recent storm conditions.
The matter was raised by Galway West TD Eamon O'Cuiv in the Dail this week when Minister Simon Coveney said that this was due to State aid rules.
However the Fianna Fail Deputy was told that funding will be considered for lost lobster pots and equipment.
Fine Gael Deputy Sean Kyne has since confirmed that 1.5 million euro in funding is to be provided through BIM to provide 40% of the replacement costs of lost lobster or shrimp pots.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Deputy O'Cuiv says it's a step in the right direction but the Government hasn't done enough.
