HSE publishes terms of reference for McElwee Inquiry

Date Published: 19-Jul-2007
The Health Service Executive has published the terms of reference for its inquiry into the Dr Niall McElwee controversy. It emerged last week that the childcare expert from Rockfield Athenry resigned from his post at Athlone Institute of Technology after his bosses became aware that he had been convicted of a sexual offence in the Netherlands in 2005. The Irish Medical Organisation's former industrial relations director Conal Devine will lead the inquiry which will investigate what information was in the possession of the HSE from the Gardai, the Departments of State and Athlone IT. The inquiry will also investigate whether any concerns arose in relation to matters of child protection.
