Galway West TD Brian Walsh says the Government is considering a 'Plan B' in the event Europe gives a negative ruling regarding the city outer bypass.

An oral hearing on the bypass is taking place at the courts of the European Union in Luxembourg today.

It will see the European court rule on the interpretation of conservation areas under the European Council's habitat directive.

The hearing, Peter Sweetman versus An Bord Pleanala, is being heard in English before a panel of judges, and is expected to take several hours.

It's understood a decision from the advocat general on the case could be given in the next 6 weeks.

Speaking on Galway Talks, Deputy Brian Walsh admitted he is now sceptical about a positive outcome on the bypass.
