Galway family business still going strong celebrating 80 years opened

And they have no signs of slowing down either
Throughout closure after closure around Galway city and county, one local family has lasted the test of troubling times to be a business in Ireland.
The clothing and gift department store Standún’s has been a landmark in Spiddal since it was first founded and opened by May and Máirtín Standún in 1946.
So it’s only right that the three generations of the Standún family are gearing up for massive celebrations all this month to mark the massive moment of being 80 years in business.
The family, alongside a mix of loyal customers and tourists, raised a glass to celebrate the eight decade feat on Sunday as well as celebrating continued success at their other stores in Oughterard and Birr.
While there were no major stars this time around, their 70th celebrations brought out an array of local celebrities including Ryan Tubridy.
After posing for countless photographs and selfies with fans, Tubridy interviewed members of the Standún family ten years ago, including Donal Standún, who ran the business until 2012 when the baton was passed on to his daughter Cliona, a grandchild of the founders.
And while one local business was cheering to 80 years, another city business was announcing it was closing its doors after 35.
Elizabeth C Beauty on Abbeygate Street has said that the industry has changed so much over the last four decades that it is time to hand it over to the next generation.
They thanked their customers, some of whom have been with them since day dot, saying that they will never forget how they trusted their care.
They also gave huge appreciation to the people who have worked there across the 35 years, shaping the business into what it ultimately became.
Owners Eilish and Siobhan said: “After 35 years, Elizabeth C Beauty will close the doors for the final time on Saturday October 3rd.
“It has been a privilege to have met and looked after so many wonderful clients over the years. We have shared the big occasions, the sad events, the birthdays, weddings, christenings, retirements, and it has been a joy.
They continued: “Our industry has changed hugely over the 35 years and we feel this is the right time to let the next generation take over.
“A sincere thank you to all our wonderful clients who have kept us busy all these years, you trusted us with your care and we appreciate that. We will miss the chats and the laughs we shared and the friendships we built.
“To the most amazing women that we have worked with over the years, we say a huge thank you for your skills, professionalism and dedication to Elizabeth C. We can honestly say we have worked with the best, and we are so proud of the many ladies who have moved on to owning their own businesses, having started their careers with ourselves.”
They concluded: “We will honour all Gift Vouchers so please contact the salon by phone to book in and use up your voucher: 091-566729. Gift vouchers may also be used to purchase skincare.
“Please phone in to make these bookings. After September 14th, we will no longer take bookings by email/Instagram. Thank you for making these 35 years so incredibly special and memorable. We will cherish the memories forever. With all our love and deepest gratitude, Eilish and Siobhan.”
