The trial of a 51-year old Connemara man, who is charged with assaulting traditional Irish musician Noel Hill, has been further adjourned to await a Supreme Court decision on the matter.

Michael Folan from Teach Mór, Lettermullen is charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Noel Hill, contrary to Section 4 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997, at Tí Padraig Mairtín Beag in Leitir Mór on St Stephen’s Day, 2008.

The matter was referred to the High Court in Dublin last year for judicial review after Mr Folan said he wanted his trial heard ‘as Gaeilge’and that a bi-lingual jury be made available to hear the case.

Galway Circuit Criminal Court was told the matter has since been referred to the Supreme Court and it is expected to make its ruling later this week.

Judge Rory McCabe adjourned the case for mention to May 7 when it is expected a date will be set for trial.
