The production of a television series for English channel ITV in Connemara establishes the area as a major global competitor for media production.

That's according to CEO of Údaras na Gaeltachta, John Lowry.

Mr. Lowry made the comment ahead of the new childrens series being broadcast on ITV next week.

Annabels Kitchen, a 30 part series about cooking with children, was filmed in a specially constructed studio in Spiddal.

It went into production in January and was filmed over a five-week period with a total crew of 55 people.

The Galway Gaeltacht is now the largest TV production base outside of Dublin and employs over 350 people in the region.
