ADDITIONAL POWERS RULED OUT FOR TUAM TOWN COUNCIL

Tuam Town Council was told at their meeting last night that there is no facility in current Government legislation to give it additional powers.
Director of Services Frank Gilmore carried out an initial investigation of the legislation following a request from a new member of the council.
The Director said he suspected it would need a Ministerial order to upgrade councils such as Tuam which never had the powers of an Urban District Council.
Cllr Larry Bane had called for more powers for the town board but the chances of that happening seem slim as over a year ago moves were afoot to abolish some town councils completely.
