Mark Geary writes songs that stand apart. The Dublin native makes a welcome return to Monroe’s Live on June 11, following a recent mini-US tour that saw him play Seattle and Portland.

In Galway, Geary will be playing songs from his upcoming fifth studio album, as well as gems from his back catalogue.

Geary has been already showcasing the songs at house concerts around Ireland. The Groove Tube was lucky to attend two, in Ventry and Westmeath, and can safely say the new songs are, in a word, brilliant.

This album will be the first to feature vocalist Gráinne Hunt, who has been collaborating with Mark for over three years, after she replied to an ad in Hot Press.

“Gráinne showed up and said ‘I play a little bit of guitar, but I’m a singer'," Mark says. “I just thought it was so ballsy. She knew all the songs, and everyone I did she could nail all the harmonies.”

Earlier this year, Mark Geary opened for his Glen Hansard as part of The Frames’ singer’s solo tour of Spain. Geary and Hansard’s friendship goes back over 20 years, when they were just cutting their teeth as songwriters renditions of Bowie’s Ashes to Ashes, Prince’s Sign of the Times and Geary’s It Beats Me.

If you admire melody, hooks and the art of songwriting, this Monroe’s gig is unmissable.
