THREE Galway football stars were named on the GAA.ie team of the week. Cian Hernon, Cein D’Arcy and Shane Walsh were all rewarded for their performances in Galway’s win over Westmeath in round two of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship last Sunday afternoon in Pearse Stadium.

Hernon was named at full back on the GAA.ie team of the week. The Bearna clubman has impressed for the Tribesmen in the number three jersey throughout the championship and he produced another solid performance holding Westmeath sharpshooter John Heslin scoreless from play.

Meanwhile, Cian D’Arcy was named Man of the Match following Galway’s victory over Westmeath. The Ballyboden St Enda’s player caused significant difficulties for Westmeath with his aerial presence, and Joyce revealed that D’Arcy had been carrying a knock heading into the game. D’Arcy was also included at midfield in the GAA.ie team of the week.

“He was brilliant. Outstanding in fairness to him. His workrate, his effort was superb. He hasn't trained since the Kildare match, a bit of an injury. I've seen stats there, he contested, I think, eight out of nine kickouts. He won eight out of nine he contested,” said Galway senior football manager Padraic Joyce when speaking about Cein D’Arcy’s performance.

“Three tackles and kicked two scores. Really, really good, good performance. As were Mattie and Paul Conroy as well, who was immense on the ball. Really, really good out there. When we wanted players to stand up and catch the ball, Céin did it at times, Mattie Tierney did it, Damien did it. So, that's a great aspect to have in a team.”

Shane Walsh also stood out in attack for Padraic Joyce’s charges kicking 1-4 and Walsh also named in attack on the team of the week.
