The national forecast has issued a weather update for after the severe warnings end

Temperatures are set to reach over 20C on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday again but rain and thunder is set to scupper the best chances of clear sunshine during that weather period.

After a rapid and wild thunderstorm weather warning for Galway on Tuesday morning which cut out at 10am, the rest of the day will become mostly cloudy and rather misty with thundery downpours continuing throughout the day even now the weather warning has worn off.

Met Eireann say Tuesday will brighten up with some sunny spells developing but they will also be met with some heavy further showers in the evening.

The National Forecaster added: “There's a chance of more thunderstorms into the afternoon too, with these most likely over parts of Ulster and Leinster.

“Humid with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 or 24 degrees, warmest in the east and south, with light to moderate southwest winds, becoming mostly moderate westerly, increasing fresh and occasionally gusty along the west coast in the evening.”

Here’s how the next few days are looking weather wise according to Met Eireann:

Tonight: “Mainly dry at first tonight with just isolated showers and with some clear spells, the best of these across the east and south. Cloud will increase overnight with a scattering of showers moving in from the west and with some persistent rain and drizzle spreading into parts of Ulster, north Connacht and possibly north Leinster. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees in mostly moderate westerly winds, increasing fresh to strong and gusty in western and northwestern coastal parts.”

Tomorrow: “Wednesday, will be a rather windy day, indeed windy further north, and it'll be fresher than recently. It'll be cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle affecting much of Ulster, and mainly north Connacht and north Leinster, accompanied by fresh to strong and occasionally gusty westerly winds, reaching near gale or gale force in northwestern coastal parts.

“The rain will be heaviest and most persistent in the northwest, with some spot flooding possible. It'll be much drier and brighter elsewhere with some sunny spells and a few well scattered showers and mostly moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty westerly winds, strong at times. Highest temperatures ranging from 14 degrees in the northwest, up to 19 or 20 degrees in the southeast.”
