On a weekend when the vast majority of action was postponed OLBC took full advantage when coming from behind to defeat Western Hygiene Supplies Second Division leaders Kinvara United by 3-2 and in the process move into second spot in the table.

That was the only fixture that was played from the 12 that were down for decision on Sunday - four games fell at the Mervue United complex alone over the weekend as the grounds were closed by Galway City Council after a floodlight fell onto the all-weather pitch, while a tree also fell in the area.

In Cup action, Bohemians hit rare good form as they dismissed Oughterard B in the Michael Byrne Cup, while Renmore advanced to the last 32 of the SFAI U-16 Barry Cup with a home win over Ballinasloe Town.

After being despatched from the FAI Junior Cup the previous weekend, it was a real test of character for Boys Club on Sunday as they headed south to face league leaders Kinvara and the outcome wasn’t a shock as the city side certainly showed that they are a step above Second Division football.

However it was the home side who made the perfect start when Robbie Madden picked up a loose ball and drove forward before finishing past Derek Griffin. The set back proved to be the perfect pick-me-up for Boys Club as three without reply put them in a commanding position before the break.

Jason McDonagh set up Jimmy Jennings for a close range equaliser, before Damien Carter put the visitors ahead with a terrific solo effort. The young midfielder broke from half way and slalomed his way past a number of would be challengers before making it a goal to remember with a terrific finish.
