Nurses to be balloted in effort to solve dispute at Westdoc

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Nurses are to be balloted by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation in an effort to solve the ongoing dispute at Westdoc, the out-of-hours GP service. Westdoc laid off 15 nurses in March after the insurer of the INMO withdrew personal liability cover for the employees concerned. Union reps argued the Westdoc nurses could not get insurance cover elsewhere at a reasonable cost. A meeting held between the INMO and Westdoc last month was described as ‘positive'. The result of the ballot is expected at noon next Tuesday.
