NUIG UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES LOWEST IN HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR

There's good news for NUI Galway as the university has the lowest unemployment figures among graduates in higher education in Ireland.

While national unemployment figures stand at 14.5 per cent, the NUIG class of 2009/2010 are bucking the trend with just 3.2 per cent of them actively seeking employment.

The findings come from the university's annual survey of almost 4,000 graduates and was conducted 9 months after their graduation.

The number of NUIG graduates going directly into employment was 47.5 per cent, up 4 per cent on the previous year.

A significant percentage also went on to further studies.
