The Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has agreed to convene a meeting with Galway oireachtas members to discuss the decision to close city asylum centre, Lisbrook House.

Supporters and residents are protesting outside the centre this morning to voice their opposition to the move, which will mean the transfer of hundreds of residents.

It's the second such protest this week, another was held outside Galway West TD Brian Walsh's constituency office in Bohermore on Monday.

Last week, the Justice Department confirmed that the facility, located at the former IBIS hotel, off the Headford road, will close by the end of next month.

Deputy Walsh says while talks will be held at Government level he doesn't expect a reversal of the decision.
