Iron bar armed Tuam attacker smashes man’s face in as video shows frightening scenes

Three men were brought to hospital and one man was arrested
These are the frightening scenes which show an assault bringing a Galway town to a standstill over the weekend.
An iron bar armed Tuam attacker was caught on video violently swinging the weapon towards another man whose face is visibly smashed in and covered in blood.
The incident is understood to have happened on Friday evening involving two clashing groups from the area which saw three people brought to hospital and one man arrested.
In a two minute video, seen by Galway Live, a young man can also be seen following the armed attacker around with an implement of his own as the bloodied man is targeted.
The brutal brawl left locals around Tuam square afraid to leave nearby premises as they waited for the attacking to stop.
Two cars were also left abandoned during the clash with drivers’ doors open in both vehicles before being driven away once the incident ended.
A spokesman for gardai told Galway Live: “Gardai responded to an incident of violent disorder at Shop Street in Tuam on July 31 after 9pm.
“Three men (aged in their 30s and 40s) were brought to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“A man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested as part of the investigation and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.”
“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Shop Street area between 9:00pm and 9:30pm and has camera footage to contact gardai.”
