The Director of Road Services John Morgan has told this week's meeting of the County Council that the cutbacks in roads money for regional and local roads in Galway were all done in Dublin. There has been a 28% cutback which means that there will now be 24 million euro available for 2009 rather than the €33 and a half million that had originally been agreed. The new Roads Programme was finally agreed after much recrimination and the adoption of a motion calling on the Department of Transport to re-instate the €9m that had been lost.
