Artist Rosie celebrates Available Light at Roundstone's stunning Errisbeg House
The historic Errisbeg House in Roundstone is the venue for Available Light, a new exhibition from Rosie McGurran which is running from August 1-16.
It's an ambitious show from the Belfast-born artist who exhibits every August in Roundstone, which has been her second home for many years.
This is her first time showing in Errisbeg – with some 50 paintings in the Stable Gallery and the house itself – and Rosie will be giving workshops in drawing and painting every afternoon for the duration of the run.
Many paintings have been inspired by the local area; "the islands, the beaches, Roundstone", and were made "from the travelling studio of my car", explains Rosie, a member of the Royal Ulster Academy.
Others are the result of her 2025 residency in the British School in Rome, and yet more have been inspired by the work of her friend, Belfast poet Maria McManus.
Maria's collection, Available Light, (Arlen House 2018), also provided the inspiration for the show's title.
Available Light will be opened this Saturday by artist Eamon Colman, who has strong connections with Connemara. His artist father, Seamus, first visited Roundstone in the 1960s at the invitation of Gerard Dillon, and Eamon spent many summers there, forming longstanding friendships.
The opening will be even more special because the guests will include Rosie’s friend and fellow artist Margaret Irwin West, who celebrates her 100th birthday this year.
All are welcome to visit Available Light at Errisbeg House (H91 A9RY), with its beautiful gardens which, says Rosie, add an extra-special dimension to the show. Tutorials will take place in the afternoon and materials will be provided.
