Three of Galway's four national league basketball clubs will get their 2026/27 campaigns underway with a home game on the first weekend of October, after the fixture lost for the season was finally announced this (Friday) morning.

Last year's beaten Men's Division One finalists, Titans, will welcome Portlaoise Panthers to the Ballinfoile Community Centre on Saturday October 3 (7pm); while at the same tome just across the Quincentenary Bridge, Maigh Cuillinn will take on Tipp Talons in the Kingfisher Arena at the University of Galway.

The third Galway side in Men's Division One will be on the road on the opening weekend, with Maree heading to Kerry to take on a Killorglin side that was relegated from the Men's Super League in a play-off with Neptune at the end of last season.

The full season’s fixtures have now being confirmed, with the first Galway derby of the season taking place on the second weekend of action when Maree host Maigh Cuilinn in Calasanctius College in Oranmore (Saturday October 10, 7pm).

Titans will host Maree in Ballinfoile on Saturday October 31 (7pm); and Maigh Cuilinn will make the trip to Ballinfoile on Saturday December 12 (7pm); before the city side travel to Oranmore the following weekend for a meeting with Maree (Saturday December 19, 7pm).

Maigh Cuilinn and Titans will meet in the Kingfisher on Saturday February 6 (7pm); with the final regular season derby a fortnight later when Maree visit the university facility (Friday February 10, 7pm).

The 14-team division is split into two Conferences of seven teams, with teams facing their Conference opponents home and away, while each team will also have seven cross-Conference games.

The top four teams from each Conference qualify for the end-of-season playoffs, with the playoff winner promoted to the Men’s Super League. The seventh-placed teams from each Conference will be relegated to Men’s Division 2.

The three Galway sides are all in the South Conference along with Tipp Talons, Portlaoise Panthers, and the Kerry duo of St Paul's (Killarney) and Killorglin.

Maigh Cuilinn's game is the second in a double-header at the Kingfisher on the opening weekend, as University of Galway Mystics will take on Cleveland Rockets in the college venue at 3pm.

The Women's Division One league has expanded to 12 teams with the addition of Ongar Chasers and Tralee Warriors for the 2026/27 season. There will now be two Conferences, each containing six teams. Teams will play their Conference opponents home and away, and each team will also have six cross-Conference games.

The top four teams from each conference will go into playoffs, and the playoffs winner is promoted to the Domino’s Women’s Super League. There is no relegation from Domino’s Women’s Division One.

University of Galway Mystics are in the North Conference along with Cleveland Rockets from Lisburn, Kilkenny Stars, and the Dublin trio of Templeogue, Ongar Chasers, and Swords Thunder

The club is to hold open trials at the Kingfisher, starting next month, with sessions to be held on Tuesday August 25, Thursday August 27, and Thursday September 3, running from 7pm to 9pm in the Kingfisher on each of the three days. There is a cost of €10, which covers all trial sessions. The trials are open to all players living, working, or studying in the region, and it is possible to play without having to transfer from your current club via the structured link set-up.
