Galway Youths side claim FAI Inter-League honours
Wexford League 0
Galway League 1
For just the second time in their history, the Galway and District League have clinched the FAI Youth (U-18) Inter League title as a Padraig Cunningham goal gave the visitors a merited 1-0 victory over the Wexford League in Ferrycarrig Park in Wexford on Sunday afternoon
Throughout the unbeaten campaign, the goals of Padraig Cunningham have been crucial and on Sunday last he scored the most important of all – a cup final winner.
Collecting possession on half way, he raced off through the middle as he held off the challenge of two central defenders in the process, before making it 1-0 with a low finish past the advancing Dylan Owens.
“That was a real battle out there and they certainly earned the win. Our wonder kid up top (Padraig Cunningham) did the business with a great goal and we have a talented bunch at this age group, but the biggest issue is getting them all on the park at the same time. Education and other sports take some of their time, but it is great that they were rewarded today,” said manager, Brian Laffey.
