EIGHT TEAMS remain in contention for promotion to senior football as the Galway Intermediate Football Championship reaches its decisive stages.

The quarter-final pairings are now confirmed in the Galway Intermediate Football Championship, with Glenamaddy, St Brendans, Mícheál Breathnach and An Spidéal all recording victories in the preliminary quarter-finals at the weekend. St Michaels, Menlough, Oranmore Maree and Caherlistrane topped their respective groups to progress directly to the last eight.

The 2024 intermediate county champions St Michaels will face last year’s beaten finalists An Spidéal in the Galway IFC quarter-finals. An Spidéal enjoyed a comfortable 2-22 to 1-9 victory over Oileáin Árann in their preliminary quarter-final.

Group Four winners Caherlistrane will meet Glenamaddy in a repeat of the Division 3A league semi-final. Glenamaddy impressed in their preliminary quarter-final as they overcame Corofin B to book their place in the last eight.

Menlough, who remain unbeaten after winning all three of their group games, will take on Mícheál Breathnach in the quarter-finals. Mícheál Breathnach proved too strong for Kilconly, coming out on top by 1-18 to 0-14 in their preliminary quarter-final.

Oranmore Maree, who continue to build on their underage success in recent seasons, face last year’s county semi-finalists St Brendans in the quarter-finals. St Brendans have responded impressively after suffering two defeats earlier in the championship to secure their place in the last eight.

In the relegation semi-finals, An Cheathrú Rua defeated Cortoon Shamrocks 1-16 to 0-14, while Clifden edged past Kilkerrin Clonberne by 1-15 to 1-14. Cortoon Shamrocks will now face Kilkerrin Clonberne in the IFC relegation final, with the loser suffering relegation to the Junior ranks and the winner retaining their intermediate status.
