Galway Senior Football Championship quarter-final line-up confirmed

THE DRAW took place on Sunday evening for the Galway Senior Football Championship quarter-finals.
Monivea-Abbey, Mountbellew Moylough, Claregalway and Ougheterard all came through the Galway Senior Football Championship Preliminary quarter-finals at the weekend. Annaghdown, Corofin, Moycullen and Salthill Knocknacarra all topped their groups and advanced directly into the quarter-finals.
Annaghdown and Claregalway meet in a local derby in the Galway SFC quarter-final. Claregalway came from six points down at the interval to record a 3-15 to 2-7 victory over Bearna Na Forbhacha on Saturday in Pearse Stadium. Dara Whelan, David Tarmey and Owen Morgan raised green flags in the second half for Austin Sammon’s and Alan Daly’s side.
Corofin also meet neighbours Monivea Abbey in a local derby clash in the last eight. Denis Farragher’s match-winning penalty save proved decisive as Monivea Abbey edged out Milltown in a titanic Galway Senior Football Championship preliminary quarter-final battle at Tuam Stadium on Sunday evening. With just one minute remaining, Farragher produced a superb stop to deny Martin from the penalty spot, allowing Monivea Abbey to cling on and secure their place in the Galway SFC quarter-finals for the first time since 2017.
County champions Moycullen face Moutbellew Moylough in the Galway SFC quarter-final in a repeat of the 2023 county semi-final and 2020 county final. Mountbellew Moylough who last won Frank Fox in 2021 recorded an impressive 0-20 to 0-13 win over Tuam Stars on Sunday.
John Daly and Michael Burke gave Mountbellew Moylough a huge platform going forward in the half back line. Ciaran Mulhern’s direct running power caused Tuam Stars plenty of problems, while Eoin Finnerty and Barry McHugh combined for 0-13 out of their side’s 0-20. Michael Daly was introduced on 37 minutes for Mountbellew Moylough making his first appearance since their 2023 county semi-final defeat to Moycullen.
Last year’s county finalists Salthill Knocknacarra take on Oughterard in the Galway SFC quarter-final. Ryan Monaghan’s winning point on 62 minutes saw Oughterard edge past Dunmore MacHales in a game that saw the lead swing on six occasions. The winners also overcame two black cards, and an injury to defender Killian Noone in the warm up, to force their way over the winning line and set up a showdown with Salthill-Knocknacarra.
Meanwhile, the SFC relegation final sees the clash of Caltra and Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir. The winner will retain their senior status and the loser will be relegated to intermediate for the 2027 season.
