Having kick-started their season when coming away from the Carlisle Grounds in April with a first win of the season, Galway United will be looking for a similar first when they host Bray Wanderers in Terryland Park this Friday night — a first home win of the campaign.A fortress that was breached just once last season, Terryland has been dishing out the 'cead mile failtes’ with abandon this campaign, as United have now gone 10 games —nine in the league — without experiencing that winning feeling in front of their own fans. There have been a number of close shaves, but United’s habit of coughing up late goals has cost them wins over both Longford Town and Shamrock Rovers, and those four 'lost’ points would see them in the far more comfortable position of eighth in the table, as opposed to the 10th spot they currently occupy.United manager Tony Cousins says it is crucial his side get that first home win sooner rather than later, and there couldn’t really be a better time to break the duck than this Friday night when the two League games being played will feature three of the bottom four.As United are hosting Bray, Waterford United will have the kettle on for the visit of Sligo Rovers to the RSC, and a brace of wins for the Connacht clubs would see United leapfrog Bray (and UCD), and move four points ahead of Waterford with a game in hand, albeit away to league leaders Drogheda United.
