Údarás ‘fully committed’ to marine park proposal

Údarás na Gaeltachta has moved to reassure people in Cill Chiaráin and Carna that they remain fully committed to plans for Páirc na Mara – with the organisation aiming to lodge an application for planning permission for the marine innovation park in three months’ time.
This comes following the decision of An Bord Pleanála to overturn planning permission granted by Galway County Council for the construction of an administrative building on the site at Cill Chiaráin – citing concerns over the effect such a development would have on the local environment.
A spokesperson for Údarás told the Connacht Tribune that it remained their objective to seek permission for the “substantive part” of the development within months – and committed to finding a way forward with all the stakeholders following the higher planning authority’s decision to uphold an objection to their office plans.
“We were disappointed with the decision of An Bord Pleanála, but we are reviewing all options open to us and we are 100 per cent committed to continuing with the Páirc na Mara project – it is core to our strategy, not just for Cill Chiaráin, but for Galway and nationally.
“The environment is as important to us as it is to anyone else and it wouldn’t be in our interest to damage the environment,” said the spokesperson.
