Judge Brian O'Callaghan asked if there was a connection between the accused and the victim and Keith Concannon BL said he understood the connection was incidental

A 27-year-old Galway man has admitted a money-laundering offence involving the receipt of €1,912 into a Revolut account.

Conor Ruane of Carnmore West, Carnmore, told Galway Circuit Court that he was entering a guilty plea to a single charge contrary to Section 7 of the Money-laundering and Terrorist Financing Act. Ruane previously entered a signed plea of guilty at Galway District Court.

The offence was put to Ruane who was told he was entitled to withdraw his plea or the case could proceed on the basis of the plea previously entered.

The accused confirmed the guilty plea and was remanded on continuing bail to appear again on July 6, 2027.

The charge against Ruane alleges that on January 21, 2025 at Revolut Bank UAB (Irish Branch) Dublin Landings, North Dock, Dublin 1, he knowingly or recklessly did engage in converting, transferring, handling, acquiring, possessing, using property that was the proceeds of criminal conduct through the use of his Revolut Account, by receiving €1,912 from a doctor.

Judge Brian O'Callaghan asked if there was a connection between Ruane and the victim and Keith Concannon BL said he understood the connection was incidental.

Mr Concannon said the money would be repaid in full and Ruane has no previous convictions.

Counsel said there are 'significant issues' of gambling and drug use in the background, and Judge O'Callaghan granted applications for a report from the Probation Services and other medical reports as directed by counsel.

Counsel said solicitor Brian Gilmartin will be coming on record and Judge O'Callaghan said a legal aid certificate would issue in Mr Gilmartin's name.
