The 140 million euro redevelopment of Galway Shopping Centre at the Headford Road has been stopped in its tracks by tenants of the centre. They've lodged an appeal to An Bord Pleanala asking it to overturn Galway City Council's decision to allow the development go ahead.Meanwhile, the developers, Lindat Ltd, have also lodged their own appeal against some of the planning conditions imposed by city planners. The Centre's Tenants Association says that while they don't object to the appropriate redevelopment of the site, they feel this development is premature pending the Headford Road Framework plan being implemented.Another person to appeal the plans is Pat McDonagh of Supermacs, who holds a 999 year lease for two units at the centre. In that appeal, Supermacs states that it never gave its consent as 'defacto owners' of Units 53 and 54 to Lindat to seek planning permission for the redevelopment.
