The company behind the award-winning restaurant are thriving

The couple behind the award-winning Rúibín restaurant on Dock Road are sitting on a cash pile of more than €500,000 after their company reported accumulated profits of €262,620 in newly filed accounts.

Alice Jary, the head chef at the acclaimed restaurant, owns Jary & Kennan Limited alongside partner Richard Kennan.

Financial accounts filed to the Companies Office last month show that the company increased its cash balance by €23,808 to €529,247 last year, during which Ms Jary was named the Best Chef in Galway at the Irish Restaurant Awards.

The firm reported a loss of €24,806 for the financial year, marking a downward swing from the €29,607 profit booked in 2024, but still recorded accumulated profits of €262,620 at the end of the year.

The business employed 24 staff during 2025, while its directors – Ms Jary and Mr Kennan – received remuneration of €139,059 in addition to pension contributions of €72,000.

The company was owed €18,915 by its debtors, and had short-term liabilities amounting to €368,806, which included €57,876 in trade creditors, €65,863 in taxation, and accruals of €245,066.

Rúibín opened in 2019 and has earned a reputation as one of the city’s finest restaurants. Mr Jary studied culinary arts at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) before working in kitchens in Galway and London.

She met Mr Kennan at Il Vicolo restaurant in Galway, where they were working as head chef and manager, and later married and pursued their shared dream of opening a restaurant of their own.

Having travelled extensively together, the couple describe the ethos of the restaurant as focusing on local, seasonal ingredients, while cooking the food in a style influenced by countries around the world.
