A Galway restaurant closing for good this weekend after nearly three decades dishing up delicious delicacies to locals has hit the market.

Sherry Fitzgerald will deal with the sale of the business after its closure on September 13 which the pair have described as “bittersweet”.

PJ and Maureen thanked their loyal customers and hardworking staff, both past and present, who helped build Off The Square into what it is today - including a special mention to two people who sadly died in recent years.

The owners said: “It is with bittersweet emotions that Off the Square will be closing its doors on Sunday September 13.

“Throughout our 27 wonderful years, we have been truly fortunate to have had incredible staff, both past and present, we are grateful for their hard work and dedication over the years.

“We would like to make a special mention to Marina and Rory, who both sadly passed away in recent years. Their contribution to our restaurant and its success will always be remembered.”

They continued: “We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our friends and customers, from both near and far, who have been with us throughout the years.

“Without your loyalty, friendship and continued support, we simply would not have the business we have today. We are truly grateful to each and every one of you.

“We would also like to thank all our suppliers who have kept us going over the years.

“We would like to acknowledge the immense contribution and sacrifice our family have put in over the years.

“Our kids have all been a part of this journey with us, to them we are forever grateful. We look forward to this next chapter of our lives.”

The Daft.ie advert reads: “A well established restaurant centrally located in one of the country’s most visited tourist destinations.

“Having extensive frontage onto Clifden’s Main street, the business attracts a substantial passing footfall trade.

“Seating up to 80 guests, the restaurant has been excellently maintained with a warm cosy atmosphere.

“The blend of solid wood floors, wainscoting and exposed stone, gives the space a lovely sense of character.

“The exterior has also retained many original features. Overhead are two apartments, both having two bedrooms.

“Laid out over two floors both with separate and private access from the rear of the building. This is a substantial property with an excellent location in the renowned tourist town of Clifden.”
