A year after the outbreak of cryptosporidium in Galway's public water supply, some people are still having "complications" linked to the parasite.According to today's Irish Times, the Health Service Executive says less than 10 people developed complications. Some conditions which can result from contracting the gastro-intestinal illness, cryptosporidiosis, in immuno-compromised people, are gallbladder disease and pancreatitis. While the HSE says it's "not aware" of any deaths resulting from last year's water contamination in Galway, in Milwaukee in the US in 1993, there were 100 deaths from cryptosporidiosis.
