The religious congregation that ran the Galway Magdalene laundry is inviting women who may have spent time there to come meet with the order.

In a statement, the Sisters of Mercy say they acknowledge and are saddened by the limitations of the care that was provided in the laundries.

The laundry on Forster Street closed in 1984.

The report into the Magdalene laundries revealed that full records of the laundry operated in Galway do not survive.

Meanwhile, representatives of the survivors of Magdalene laundries and their families say Enda Kenny's statement in the Dáil yesterday does not go far enough.
