SECOND BRIDGE PROPOSED AT CITY CATHEDRAL

The construction of a second bridge alongside the Salmon Weir bridge in the city is the best method of relieving pedestrian and motor traffic in the area.
That's according to RPS consultants, who presented a final report on the Corrib Crossing Feasibility Study at a meeting of Galway city council last evening.
The bridge would cost €2.9 million, and would allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross the River Corrib in a much safer manner than at present.
Current safety issues with the Salmon Weir bridge, which is close to the Cathedral, include narrow footpaths and the fact that there is no pedestrian crossing.
