SEA FESTIVAL TO GET FUNDS FROM CITY COUNCIL

The upcoming Galway Sea Festival has received the financial backing of Galway City Council.

City Councillors have agreed to allocate funding of 22 thousand 500 euro to the event which runs from May 31st to June 3rd.

Galway chamber President Declan Dooley made the pitch to city councillors for 35 thousand euro.

He explained the Galway sea festival, which is 95% city based, would promote Galway as a maritime location, and that so far over 50 events had been organised.

These include a festival regatta, currach racing, taster sessions of water activities as well as tours of research and naval vessels.

The budget for the festival is 86 thousand euro, 17 thousand has already been secured from the IPB gathering initiative, and another 14 thousand from businesses.

After lengthy debate, and an adjournment for 15 minutes it was unanimously agreed to give the festival 22 thousand 500 euro, with a plan to review the event next year.
