REMOVAL OF CONTROVERSIAL OIL TANKS UNDERWAY AT THE DOCKS

Date Published: 14-Apr-2009
Work to remove the controversial tanks at Galway docks in the city is underway. The removal of the tanks means that a tented village can be erected at the site for the Galway stopover of the Volvo Ocean race in May.This morning Tinnelly Construction from Newry began the task of cutting the metal from the tanks into sections. This will be done using specialised hydraulic cuttters. The metal will then be sent to a Galway metal company in Oranmore, which will transport the metal for recycling.
