Public meetings in Galway on case for and against the Seanad

Galway bay fm newsroom - Arguments for and against the abolition of the Seanad will be debated at public meetings in the city next week.

Galway Senator Fidelma Healy Eames, now a member of the new reform alliance group, has convened a meeting next Monday in the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square. She says a No vote is the best option as the abolition of the Senate will strip away the constitutional method of taking a second look at legislation.Meanwhile, Fine Gael is hosting a meeting to advocate the yes side - it takes place the Menlo Park Hotel next Monday evening. They argue that just 1% of the population elected the current Seanad, and abolishing it will save 20 million euro a year.
