One of the city's most significant archaeological buildings is to get a major overhaul. Allied Irish Bank has secured the rights to demolish modern additions to Lynch's Castle on Shop Street and build a new three storey building behind it fronting onto Abbeygate Street Upper. The City council has ordered AIB to have a detailed survey carried out by a conservation expert and archeologist. All archeological and architectural features are to be retained and displayed on site within AIB at Lynch's Castle.
