PORTUMNA RESIDENTS LOSE APPEAL AGAINST VEC CENTRE

Date Published: 08-Jan-2009
Residents of a Portumna housing estate have lost their appeal against a county Galway VEC training centre. An Bord Pleanála has upheld a decision by the county council to grant Liam Burke permission to turn an apartment block into a VEC training centre at Abbey Street in the town. The seven residents said no limit was put on the number of people using the centre, no traffic audit was requested and the VEC centre would breach their privacy. But the planning appeals board has decided to uphold the decision and granted Liam Burke permission subject to four conditions.
