PORTIUNCULA HOSPITAL EXCEEDS LIMIT FOR PRIVATE PATIENTS

Latest figures, released by the Health Service Executive, reveal that Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe is exceeding its limit for the number of private patients treated there.According to the HSE, a maximum of 20 percent of cases in public hospitals are supposed to be private.In Portiuncula hospital, 38 percent of elective cases in 2006 were private.According to today's Irish Times, the overall public-private mix for elective, emergency and day cases was 33 percent at Portiuncula.
