PARENTS CHARGE FOR CHILDS SCHOOL ATTENDANCE DROPPED

Date Published: 23-Jan-2008
Charges brought last year against the Galway parents of a child who was not attending school have been adjourned indefinitely as the situation has improved. The couple, who live in a city suburb and who may not be named in order to protect their son’s identity, were prosecuted by the National Education Welfare Board last year when teachers reported his non attendance at school.Since the Board’s intervention and its subsequent prosecution of the parents before Galway District Court, the child’s school attendance - which was negligible at the time the prosecution was first brought - has improved.
