O CUIV CALLS FOR INDEPENDENT INQUIRY INTO HORSEMEAT SCANDAL

Galway West TD Eamon O' Cuiv is calling for an independent inquiry into the horsemeat in burgers scandal.

Fianna Fáils agriculture spokesperson made the comments this afternoon in the wake of the latest controversy to hit the food industry.

Gardaí and the Department of Agriculture are investigating following the discovery of 75 percent horsemeat in filler material at Rangeland Foods in Co Monaghan.

The Cabinet's being briefed about the situation and the Agriculture Minister will be quizzed at a Dáil committee later.
