NUIG LAUNCHES COD FARMING PROJECT

A pioneering cod farming project has been launched by marine scientists at NUIGalway.20 thousand juvenile fish have been moved to sea cages in Connemara from land based facilities.The "Eircod" project, spearheaded by the University's Martin Ryan Institute, aims to rear the fish to market size.According to the Irish Times, this is the first time that a native strain of the fish has been bred and released in these numbers in Ireland
