Galway county council has welcomed a Labour Court clarification of the legal position regarding the Code of Practice for emergency and essential services. However the council has not yet made a decision on the Court's recommendations on its dispute with SIPTU over outdoor staff.SIPTU says it will suspend the threat of inustrial action if the county council accepts the Labour Court's recommendations. In a statement released this afternoon, the county council acknowledged the courts findings in relation to the non-renewal of fixed term / temporary contracts and in relation to allowances. It's also insisting it has always reimbursed staff for mileage the council requires them to undertake. SIPTU official Michael Kilcoyne says removal of allowances is a major bone of contention.
