New trial city ferry service docks in Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A trial ferry service on Galway Bay linking Clare with Galway city made its way to the docks for the first time this morning.

The aim of the Ballyvaughan Bay Hop is to establish a rural commuter fast ferry service for workers and visitors linking North Clare and the city.

It aims to be an alternative means of transport to the bus or private car user and those behind the venture claim that it will also improve the accessibility of the Burren for tourists.

This trial for the next two weeks will test the feasibility of the service and it's hoped it will attract a suitable private operator to establish a permanent service.

The first 30 minute sailing left Ballyvaughan New Pier at 7.45 this morning.
