MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE DECLARED FOR CONNEMARA MAN

A County Galway man who was falsely accused of sexually assaulting his ten year old neighbour has had his conviction declared a miscarriage of justice.33 year old Michael Feichin Hannon, now living in Clifden, was convicted in 1999 of sexual assault.The court heard his conviction was based on the sole evidence of 12 year-old Una Hardester - whose family had moved to Aughrismore, Cleggan from the US.In 2006 she told Gardai she made up the allegations -she said she did something terribly wrong out of misplaced loyalty to her family and got away with it.The conviction was quashed in February.
