Minister opens new extension to school in Athenry
Galway Bay fm News - The Minister of State at the Department of Education and Skills has officiated at the opening of a new school building in Athenry this afternoon (1pm).
Minister Ciaran Cannon opened 2 new extensions at Newcastle National School this afternoon.
The building was blessed, with prayers of the faithful read by pupils and the unveiling of the school name.
Teachers, pupils, parents and invited guests were entertained with Irish dancing, music and song by children of the national school.
Minister Canon was also given a guided tour of the photographic exhibition in the school and the outdoor classroom and school garden.
The school now caters for 180 students having grown in pupil numbers from 130 in 2008.
