MAURA THORNTON FOUND GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER OF FORMER LOVER IN SALTHILL

A Connemara woman has been found guilty by a jury of the manslaughter of her former lover.

31 year old Maura Thornton, from Inverin, Connemara, had denied the murder of US national 59 year old Kevin Joyce at a rented apartment at 183 Upper Salthill on Sunday, July 31, 2011.

This afternoon the jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter after three hours and eight minutes of deliberations following the six-day trial at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Galway.

Mr Justice Barry White remanded the accused on continuing bail to appear before the Central Criminal Court sitting in Dublin on March 11th for sentence.
